A personal-loan EMI depends on three main inputs: the amount borrowed, the interest rate and the time allowed to repay. Change any one of them and the estimated monthly instalment changes. Fees and other charges can change the full cost too.
How to use the FinSmarter calculator
Open the Personal Loan EMI Calculator. Enter the principal amount, annual rate and tenure shown in the offer you are considering. Try the same amount with a different tenure to see how the monthly payment and total interest move. The calculator is a planning aid; it does not show what a provider will offer you.
Why a lower EMI may not mean a cheaper loan
Extending the repayment period can reduce the instalment while increasing the time interest is charged. Compare total repayment for the full term as well as the monthly amount. Add the actual processing and other fees in the Total Loan Cost Calculator.
What to check in the offer
Review the Key Facts Statement and agreement. Confirm the annual percentage rate (APR), fixed or floating rate, payment dates, fees, delayed-payment charges and prepayment conditions. If the rate can reset, understand how a change might affect your instalment or repayment time.
Make sure the payment fits your budget
Use take-home income and include rent, household expenses, savings and existing repayments. Choose a payment that still leaves room for irregular costs. The Loan Affordability Calculator lets you start with the EMI you feel comfortable paying, but it is not a lender eligibility test.
What an EMI calculator cannot tell you
It cannot predict approval, the final rate, changes to a floating rate, every possible fee or your future financial situation. Actual repayment schedules may also depend on the lender’s calculation and disbursement dates. Check the written documents before accepting a loan.
